Structural Engineer
Role Summary
The Structural Engineer will be responsible for designing, analysing, and overseeing the construction of building structures and infrastructure projects. The role involves producing safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural solutions in compliance with relevant codes, standards, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design structural systems for buildings and civil engineering projects (steel, concrete, timber, masonry)
- Carry out structural analysis and calculations using industry software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, Robot, Tekla Structural Designer)
- Prepare detailed design drawings, reports, and specifications
- Ensure designs comply with Eurocodes, local building regulations, and health & safety standards
- Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, MEP engineers, and contractors
- Conduct site inspections, assess structural conditions, and provide technical advice
- Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, and method statements
- Support project delivery from concept design through to construction and completion
- Assist in preparing tender documentation and cost estimates where required
- Participate in design meetings and client presentations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (essential)
- Working towards or holding professional accreditation (e.g. Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland or ICE)
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics and engineering principles
- Experience with structural design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, Robot, STAAD Pro)
- Knowledge of Eurocodes and Irish/UK building regulations
- Ability to produce clear technical reports and calculations
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience in building design (residential, commercial, or infrastructure)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
Desirable Experience
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership
- Experience leading design teams or managing projects
- Familiarity with BIM workflows (Revit / Navisworks)
- Experience in large-scale infrastructure or complex buildings
- Client-facing experience and project management exposure
